About Me

My photo
I would say that I am curious, vivacious, gregarious, sometimes funny, intelligent, easy going, very passionate about the things I love, caring, thoughtful, and kind. Maybe that is a little over the top, but I think you can count on me to be very honest. LOL

Look For the Bare Necessities

The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life…

Today it was buzzing at the pasture!   Plumbing, heating, electrical, and yes still more framing!  Plus a few windows are in place!!!

Next Stop, Roof Shingles

Mamma Mia…finally some shingles

I’m sure the superintendent on this subdivision is sick and tired of me..Problems/the solution SICK AND TIRED!

I could list the problems – okay I will.

1. 2 X 4 – suppose to be 2 X 6 – walls some come DOWN!

2. Jog in wall in basement room annoying!!!   Fixed

3. Stair in hallway trip hazard. Redesigned. Bad stairs removed!

4. Window wells run over with equipment –Smashed in! Not fixed yet!

5. Garage corner…. truck runs into it! Not fixed yet!

6. OH NO – I asked for an 18” hearth on fireplace.  Fireplace to the floor.   Heating friend, said cheap *** fireplace.  Told them to take it out and start over.

7. Window in bonus room just looked to small for the room.  Ordered a new window …$450 change order.. are you kidding me!

8. Superintendent now SICK AND TIRED…”I’m not sick and tired, I’m the president of Sick andIMG_2472 Tired!”IMG_2471

15 Days Becomes 30 Days….

house framed in

Today I need to put the stress of house building into perspective. It's sticks and bricks not life and death….but it is definitely causing sleepless nights and we are not even in Seattle!

So when the contractor tells us how long each phase will take, smile and tell yourself he's lying. He's not really lying, but he won't be able to bring the project in on time, either. There are many variables to coordinate in building a house, and I could tell this morning that he was not happy about us bringing in several of our own sub-contractors  Each one represents an opportunity for delays right???   Framers said 15 days…it has been 30!   Granted we asked them to change a couple of things, like the stairs to the bonus room sticking out 6 inches in our 4 ft. wide hallway was not something we could live with!  TRIP HAZZARD.

Let’s look for the light.  I’ll look at it like there is light at the end of the tunnel….that building just can’t go on forever.  Eventually, the house will be done and the contractors will go away.   OVERWHELMED …because then I need to pack up the home we are living in!   I’m smiling!

So How much Huff and Puff Could a Well-Built Timber Property Stand?

You all know the story…and the second pig built his house from Sticks!  He told the third pig to STICK with him.  He knew that timber was strong, sustainable and would look great in this new rural setting.   When the first brother came knocking, they welcomed him and sat tight.

Last night the Big Bad Wolf …THE WIND…arrived, made his threats.  He huffed and puffed but the timber house did not fall down.  He tried and tried but it was just too strong.
